How to get involved

Please see below for a list of the positions available, or click here for a list of our current one-time project needs. If you're interested in volunteering but don't see anything that falls under your "category," let us know! God is constantly blessing us with things we didn't know we needed, and the next one might very well be you!

Mentors

A Mentor will be a Christian willing to walk faithfully with a struggling child or teen (Rancher). Counselling experience is desirable but not necessary, as we will have multiple resources and provide ongoing support to equip and sustain our Mentors in their ministry. Being comfortable around horses is a plus, but not required; our Rancher Aides (see below) will be on hand to help you out when needed.

Mentors will:

  • Commit to a 1.5 hour session every other week (sample session included here)
  • Pray for their Rancher
  • Listen compassionately and speak the truth in love
  • Faithfully pursue their Rancher's heart
  • Be ready to speak and display the hope of the Gospel

Trainers

We need to know that our horses will remain a safe, trustworthy presence, regardless of whether the Rancher is hiding under their mane or throwing a fit at their feet. Our trainers are crucial to making sure our horses are able to respond calmly to whatever issues or struggles a Rancher brings into the arena.

Trainers will:

  • Commit to regular training times if possible (no minimum number of hours)
  • Communicate their goals and techniques with other trainers and staff
  • Refrain from shouting or physically disciplining horses in front of Ranchers
  • Be prepared to explain to Ranchers any techniques employed on the horses
Rancher Aide

Not all of our Mentors will have horse experience, so we are looking for people who will work with our Ranchers to help build a relationship between them and the horse, as well as teach basic safety, ground work, and riding skills.

Rancher Aides will:

  • Assist/support Mentors and Ranchers during 30-45 minute sessions
  • Cultivate a fun, lighthearted experience for the Rancher
  • Teach equestrian skills through encouragement
  • Facilitate the relationship between the horse and the Rancher

Barn Helper

This is the work of a servant's heart, keeping the stables and arenas clean and inviting, but it is also a leadership role. Our biggest need will be on Saturday mornings.

Barn Helpers will:

  • Commit to a regular schedule if possible (no minimum number of hours)
  • Tend to the needs of the horses and their tack
  • Delegate tasks to our occasional volunteers (see below)
  • Cultivate a fun, rewarding work environment for others
  • Seek teachable moments to share God with volunteers
Groundskeeper

This is the work of a servant's heart, keeping the GRS grounds beautiful and inviting, but it is also a leadership role. Our biggest need will be Saturday mornings, though we'll also need some help throughout the week.

Groundskeepers will:

  • Commit to a regular schedule if possible (no minimum number of hours)
  • Tend to the lawns, shrubs, flower beds, and pond
  • Delegate tasks to our occasional volunteers (see below)
  • Cultivate a fun, rewarding work environment for others
  • Seek teachable moments to share God with volunteers

Mechanical Volunteer

This is a qualified person willing to donate time to keep a tractor, lawn mowers, 4- wheeler, wood splitter, and other machinery in good working order. This is also a wonderful opportunity to train a young person in the same skill set if you are so inclined.

Occasional Volunteer

As we build and maintain this ministry, there will be many times where we need additional help beyond our regularly scheduled volunteers. We welcome individuals or groups, and will do our best to bless you as you bless us.

Occasional volunteers may help with:

  • One-time, large-scale projects (e.g. putting up fences)
  • Small construction projects
  • Staffing GRS events
  • Barn/grounds maintenance
  • Skilled trades (electrical, plumbing, welding, tree removal, excavation, etc.)
  • And more!
